Well, I hate that I haven't been around much this week, but my job has been SO crazy! I definitely appreciate all of the advantages of working from home, but I still have requirements and deadlines to meet, all the same! Luckily I have a boss who is supportive and pretty much told me that he would fire me if I worked at all this weekend, LOL... So, I am enjoying the long holiday weekend now!
So many of my most recent pictures are of our baby doll and my family, so I'm going to mix it up this weekend... particularly because I can guarantee you at least one of the next two Saturday Snapshots (if not both) will be of the munchkin, as her first birthday is coming up! :-)
Anyway, these pictures are from our last trip to NC last summer. I can't wait to take a week off and go back later this year!
There are always so many different flowers we see blooming at various places in the mountains. I particularly liked the perspective of this one in front of the lettering on that sign in the background.
These butterflies are all over the place in the mountains. The blue on their wings is very reflective in the sunlight.
Captured this on one of our drives to or from our vacation house -- wish it had been a clear day!
That butterfly is gorgeous - what a wonderful picture with the colors of the butterfly and then the colors of the flower.
ReplyDeleteThank you! The colors do "pop" don't they?
DeleteThe flower in the first photo just seems to pop right out as if it were in 3-D. Love that!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's funny, I was never really struck by the perspective and depth of this picture until just looking back through them this morning!
DeleteThat butterfly is awfully pretty.
ReplyDeleteThanks -- it's amazing when you see a whole swarm (?) of them at once!
DeleteGorgeous shots! And now I'm realizing that I haven't taken an actual vacation for three years!
ReplyDeleteJust because I am "freelance," I guess I feel as though I don't need a vacation.
Time to change that!
Thanks for sharing...and here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST
I hope you get that vacation!! :-) I'll head over to check out your snapshot momentarily!
DeleteI love mountain vistas ... I always marvel at how much space there is in the world around us ... skies with intense cloud formations do the same thing for me ... the world is just sooo big!
ReplyDeletePretty pictures!
Yes, I can't get enough of mountain vistas. There are so many beautiful spots in NC -- I am hoping we get to more this summer!
DeleteLove the view in the last picture! Perfect spot for a vacation house :-)
ReplyDeleteWouldn't that be a great spot?! There was actually a house very close to where I was taking the picture, but I was up a little higher, so I'm not quite sure what the view from the house would have been like.
DeleteLove that butterfly--absolutely luminescent. And I like landscapes with clouds--the clouds are more interesting than flat blue sky. Looks like a wonderful view!
ReplyDeleteThat's true -- clouds do provide a lot of interest. The only advantage to the really clear days is the visibility.
DeleteI love the mountains of North Carolina!
ReplyDeleteMe too!! :-)
DeleteThat purple flower reminds me of my childhood...we used to see a lot of those where I grew up in MS...I can't remember what it's called though.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what they are, either -- there were just a lot of them blooming at the community building where our vacation house is!
DeleteI love the flower and the butterfly... seeing other people's photos is like travelling the world without actually leaving home, but I have to keep looking places up!
ReplyDeleteThat's so true! If you want to look this spot up, it's in Burnsville, NC -- and really, we're closer to a tiny little area called Pensacola, NC.
DeleteI've never seen a butterfly like that - it's so pretty! The only blue ones we have around here are very small. Glad you're getting a restful weekend!
ReplyDeleteI had to search and search to find a picture that included a name... It appears to be a Pipevine Swallowtail. That's good for me to know, too! :-)
DeleteSomeone said: Carry your camera whenever you go out of the house, beauty is all around us. Very nice photos of flowers and the butterfly. How far is the mountain from where you live?
ReplyDeleteI wish I was better about carrying a camera around! The spot where we go in NC is about 4-1/2 to 5 hours from where I live in GA. It's a beautiful drive to get there, too!
DeleteThanks!!
ReplyDeleteHollyhocks, a pipevine swallowtail, and North Carolina mountains-- three of my favorites. When I was little, we used to pretend that the hollyhock blossoms were dolls dressed in long skirts. :-)
ReplyDeleteSo those are hollyhocks! I had no idea :-) And they DO look like dolls dressed in skirts! Thanks for telling us all what they are :-)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shot of the butterfly and flower. Wow!
ReplyDeleteOh, look another butterfly picture! (It's lovely by the way) I'm going to have butterfly envy...I don't ever seem to be able to capture them on film when I see them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by mine!
What a beautiful view! Glad you are taking the weekend off. Enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteMelissa, your photos are gorgeous! The flower on its own is beautiful, but wow! How you captured the butterfly is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics. I love mountain vacations.
