Your Opinion Wanted (My Site Button)

OK, I apologize for the fact that this is my THIRD post today, I don't know what's gotten into me! But here's the deal...

I recently updated my header to try to make it look like it actually had something to do with books and reading, since that's what this site is all about. That got me thinking... Do I need a new site button to reflect the new look? So I have a little poll going on the right sidebar--you get to help me decide on my site button!

Should it be the original button I created with the butterflies:

Original Site Button

Or a version of the buttons I just made that include the Reading Girl (as I call her):

New Site Button New Site Button B
On the one hand, I hate covering up the flowers with the site name. On the other hand, I feel like the site name at the bottom doesn't quite look right, either. It's not bad, I just feel like it's somehow crammed in and the girl is sitting on it. Decisions, decisions!

The poll closes on Friday at 8PM EDT. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the buttons and get your votes (please remember to vote in the actual poll even if you leave a comment)!! Thanks for your help :-D

  1. Both are lovely, but I think the second image with the reading girl fits more of your blog. :)

  2. both are great! but, i'd say plain butterflies.

  3. Voted for the reading girl, so cute.

  4. Thanks for the input!! I did slightly modify the second option--I think it was bothering me that our girl was sitting on my name. I hated to cover up the flowers, but I think the second go-around looks more balanced...

  5. Definitely the reaading girl one.

  6. The reading girl one is a definite - it fits with your blog style.

  7. I like both but think the the "new" one has a bit more personality. (Can you change the cat to a dog?)

BTW--you obviously have too much time on your hands. You should probably be spending more time working on your mother's birthday dinner. :-)

  8. I like the second, though I think the text should probably be at the bottom; it looks a little crowded over the flowers. How about maybe make it smaller, and have "Melissa's" going over the bottom of the chair, and "Bookshelf" underneath? Well, it's your button, you have the text where you want it :) I prefer the second!

  9. I think the name of your blog needs to be easy to read and that is the case with the first one (plain butterflies).

However, if you could tweak the reading girl one, so that the flowers are not in the background, then I would go with the one on the left so that the name appears at the top.

  10. I like the girl sitting on it's! :D It's cool and trendy!

  11. Thanks for your suggestions, Jo and Ti! As a result, I've added in my first draft of the button and tweaked the name a bit on the button. I've also tweaked the button with the name on top to be more easily read, and even threw in a butterfly, reminiscent of the first button... I could probably tweak forever, lol.

  12. I love the reading girl. That's what I originally voted for last night, however, which version I prefer... I'm not sure. I completely get your dilemma. But after due consideration lol I think I prefer the one with the text in the top corner. It feels less cluttered and that always a plus in my opinion :)
    Hope that helps ;D

  13. Thanks, Mieneke! I think it really helped to remove the flowers from behind the title. That button looks cleaner, now, in my opinion, and I was even able to sneak a butterfly in :-)

  14. It's difficult. The third choice, with the reading girl and the title underneath her is way too cramped and busy. I prefer the first reading girl over the butterflies, but on the other hand, butterflies are kind of your schtick... I'm not much help. >_<

  15. Thanks Keri! It's so funny to see everyone's responses, but it makes me feel a lot better about feeling conflicted. :-) One reason I threw in the butterfly with the girl is because that's kind of been my thing--after all, it's my favicon, too.

I tend to agree with you about the third choice--that was my first draft late last night (or early this morning) and I changed it soon after posting, and I've since tweaked that one to what you see with the other reading girl button. Originally I had flowers behind it, but it took away from the title.

So many choices! :-D I appreciate your thoughts, though, it helps more than you might think!!

  16. Oh, man...this is a tough one.

I guess I'm gonna have to go with the Reading Girl.

    Although...darn it! now I'm second-guessing myself.

Yeah, Reading Girl is my vote.

As a side note, whenever I visit the site, my wife always comments on how beautiful your blog is in general. She loves the layout and the design.

  17. I like the reading girl best.

I would choose the reading girl with flowers but your right about the title looking off. So, I choose the more plain reading girl. : )

  18. Thanks, Jack--you sound like me! I've been second guessing myself ever since thinking of this! Tell your wife thank you from me, I appreciate hearing that! :-)

Genevieve ~ Thanks for your input, I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and comment! :-)

  19. I got here late (surprise!) and I took your poll, voted for #2

As far as the graphics above, I like the girl sitting on Melissa Bookshelf words because I like the additional flowers.

And when you do officially change the button, let me know and I'll change it on my blog's sidebar.

Loved that comment about you should be working on your mum's bday dinner so I was wondering if that was indeed your mum :)

  20. Hi Marie~ You're hardly late, I've got the poll up through Friday :-D Thanks for your input!! And if I do decide to make the change, you won't have to change the button (I don't think) because I am going to upload it to Photobucket with the same filename, after deleting the other button. That's what I've been doing on the buttons I've been tweaking and I haven't had to change my code at all...

And yes, that was indeed my mother. :-) Fortunately her birthday is tomorrow so I still have plenty of time :-D

  21. I chose the girl, and I actually like the one where it looks like she is sitting on your name because I like all of the details in the top left hand corner! :)

  22. I like the Reading Girl with the butterfly. It's cleaner looking than the girl with all the flowers, not as cluttered. And I absolutely love the cat! :)

  23. I like the original the best then the reading girl with the butterfly. The girl with the flowers looks cluttered to me.

  24. I voted for the Reading Girl. I like the flowers with her, but I think the one on the left is less cluttered, too. hmm...
