Today's prompt: Does your current mood affect your reading? Affect your choices? I know there are plenty of books I enjoy, but only if Im in a particular kind of mood–or books that can lift me out of a bad mood without fail. Surely I’m not alone?
I was recently thinking about this very thing! I was looking through my TBR stack for my next read and as I was mulling over choices, I kept thinking, no, I'm not in the mood for that book, or that author, or whatever the case may have been. I even thought, well, what exactly IS it about my mood that I don't want to read these books? Sometimes I just want a simple, uncomplicated read, other times I'm not ready to commit to a series and just want a stand-alone story. But I'm not sure I could pinpoint a specific mood I have to be in to read a certain book. Of course, if I am feeling a bit down, I will usually look for an author that I know will either cheer me up or make me laugh. I think it may be more difficult to assess why I may NOT want to read a particular book at any given time... Perhaps I should pay more attention to how I'm feeling and what's going on in my life when I'm making my reading selections -- it would probably be an interesting study!

I guess we should all pay more attention to our moods, since they affect our working and living very much. Good answer, and thanks for pointing that out to make me think. =) My BTT
ReplyDeleteI agree that mood dictates my choices, even when I'm trying to make a plan. I always want to toss in a favorite author for those weeks when I'm easily distracted.
ReplyDeleteHere's MY BTT POST
I usually stick to what I'm reading, despite my mood.

I realize I adjust my reading to my mood a lot. I can be disciplined too but I often have more than one book going.

I usually stick with my reading like Tribute Books Mama. although I am reading a book right now that I am finding it hard to get in the mood to read it, All The King's Men by Robert Penn Warren.
ReplyDeleteMe too. When I finish a group of books for challenges, sometimes I just want to read a book that fits my mood.
ReplyDeleteHi there, thanks for commenting on my BTT post. I like your answer - I often find myself in the library looking at the books and thinking "nah, not today", "meh, don't fancy that one" and I think it does depend on my mood.

ReplyDeleteI'm quite sure this would make an interesting study. I find that when I choose books to read to boost my mood, I tend to go for covers in 'happy' colours, as well as genres/themes that complement my mood.
Moods definitely effect my reading habits.
ReplyDeleteMy mood is a factor in my reading. It's part of the reason I never participate in blog tours. I don't want to sign up for something way ahead of time and then not want to read the book when the tour gets closer. I don't want to have to back out of anything.
ReplyDeleteOn feeling and reading selection - I might try it more.
